Grooving the Night Away: Blues On the Green 2014
Hello everyone! I've been trying to complete plenty of things on my summer bucket list & one of them is to see plenty of live music. Even though live music is something for all-year-round, I've been using the excuse to fill my summer nights with good shows.
Last night I decided last minute to go to another Blues on the Green, since the last time was such a blast. I did a blog post on the previous one, which can be found here. Basically, every other Wednesday (weather permitting) a couple of bands play at Zilker Park & the best part? It's free!
This week they featured two bands: The Nightowls & Robert Ellis as a preview to Austin City Limits, which is coming up pretty soon. Both bands will be at ACL, I presume.
Spotted a blue canoe on our walk over to Zilker!
The opening act was a band called The Nightowls from Austin. I immediately started bustin' some moves because of their funky vibes. We bolted to the front row to join the dance crowd. I was shocked to see not many people were dancing, but that didn't stop me.
The leading man had a great sense of humor & kept the crowd on their toes. Especially during their cover of "Shout" (Ya know you make me wanna..), which was appropriately the last song of their set.
It was too perfect! Everyone was jumping about & the audience had amazing feedback to the music. That's how a live show should be!
Of course these guys rocked the house with their perfect harmony & bolting energy!
The golden dresses! These girls did wonderfully. My jaw dropped when I saw them bust a move!
Here's a little taste of their music & their website. They're basically the ideal band that I'd like to perform at my future wedding reception.
Outfit was borrowed from my sister-in-law, so I'm not sure where it's from, but here's my OOTN (Outfit of the night).
The headliner was a musician named Robert Ellis from Nashville, Tennessee. It was a lot more laid back than the opening act, but I quite enjoyed his bluegrass-mixture sound.
Here's a little taste of his music from his most recent album. The sound is hard to describe because just one genre doesn't encompass it all! He's one of the few bands I'm familiar with from Nashville, so it was interesting to hear his style.
Well that's all for now! Can't wait to share more adventures & more beauty posts are coming soon.
